A poll of iPad and iOS users shows that very few people have plans to subscribe to The Daily.
Admittedly this is just one poll, and the numbers of voters is not huge (233 as I write this), but it’s being run at the popular everythingiCafe forum site, which has over 125,000 members

Of course, News Corp’s The Daily newspaper is also offering subscriptions, as they were the first app to use this feature when they launched earlier this month.
Have you spotted any other apps offering subscriptions yet? Have you signed up for any subscriptions?

Hello lovely readers. Hope you’re all having a splendid Friday so far. Just thought I’d take a moment to remind you that there are a few ways you can get more social with us (well, me mostly), and support the site while you’re at it.
For instance, you can make use of those handy little icon button guys that sit at the top of the site’s right-hand sidebar. Just click away on them to subscribe to the site’s RSS feed (so you never miss any of our cool posts), check out our fan page on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, or have a look at a few video reviews and how-tos.
If you’re already doing all of these, then thank you and maybe you can tell some friends.

A 10 inch screen size is the minimum size required to create great tablet apps.
One would think a 7 inch screen is 70% of the benefit of a 10 inch screen – but because of diagonal screen measurment, it’s only 40% – this size is insufficient to create great tablet apps we believe.
7 inch tablets are tweeners – too big to compete with smartphone, too small to compete with tablets
We don’t think you can make a great tablet with a 7 inch screen
Not too much room for doubt there. 7 inch tablet

All in all a solid app that is well-executed and thus one of my faves. The Youtube video still features the older version but it’s still worth a watch.

Despite Apple reporting lower-than-expected iPad sales in its quarterly earnings release yesterday, research firm iSuppli has once againraised its projections for iPad sales through the end of 2012 to over 120 million, up over 20 million from its July projections.
iSuppli has increased its iPad sales estimates from 12.9 million to 13.8 million for 2010, from 36.5 million to 43.7 million for 2011, and from 50.4 million to 63.3 million for 2012.
OK, these are just predictions of course

Hazy Dell HD is an extremely well done new Halloween themed book for the iPad. It’s a poem-story that’s very well written, beautifully illustrated, and that offers excellent professional narration.
Here’s a little more about it, straight from its App Store page:
Happy Halloween!! Find out what happens when the Cyclops Witch, the Willowy Reaper, the Prune-skinned Goon and other creepy creatures wander out from the wooded outskirts of town and into the sleepy confines of Hazy Dell.
Featuring an original story-poem by Kyle Sullivan and singular, eye-catching illustrations by Derek Sullivan, It’s Witching Hour in Hazy Dell! is a Halloween classic that is sure to make you grin like a Jack O’ Lantern.
It’s Witching Hour in Hazy Dell! is a Halloween story app available for your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, and includes professional audio narration, punchy sound effects and mood-setting background audio.
I’ve taken a look at the book and found it very impressive. The poem evokes the spooky Halloween season perfectly, the illustrations bring the story nicely to life on every page, and the narration seals the deal.
If you’ve got kids who enjoy a good Halloween tale, then you should give this one a look.
You can find Hazy Dell HD in the App Store now, priced at $0.99. There’s also a Lite (free) version available.

Neat story! Though I dunno how the President's people would feel about a potential vector of his autograph circulating the web since I believe you can extract vectors from Adobe Ideas for the iPad – though I'm not 100% sure on that. Thanks for sharing it!

Emergency room doctors are using them to order lab tests and medication. Plastic surgeons are using them to show patients what they might look like after surgery. And medical residents are using them as a quick reference to look up drug interactions and medical conditions.
Since Apple’s iPad hit the market in April, doctors at Chicago area hospitals are increasingly using the hot-selling tablet as a clinical tool.
That’s a slice from a recent report in the Chicago Sun-Times, highlighting the increasing popularity and adoption of the iPad in the Chicago health care sector.
Among the most interesting things about the report is that it shows both the broad range of areas where the iPad is proving an effective tool, and also that the iPad seems to have nice dual-pronged adoption momentum

Well, it looks like that number was shockingly high because it wasn’t the real figure. Nielsen has posted revised data that now shows that no less than 91% of iPad owners have installed an app.

According to a report at 9to5Mac, Steve Jobs has confirmed the permanent change in another of his direct email exchanges with a user.
So in iOS 4.2, the top right button will be a Mute button and the Orientation Lock will be toggled via a button in the Multitasking Bar, just to the right of the iPod controls.
When I first saw this change in the first iOS 4.2 beta I thought it might be a nice change, but I’ve come to agree with those who commented on it here

Ad Age has taken a look at the fledgling market for magazine titles on the iPad, and which titles and types of titles are achieving some early success.
Not surprisingly, it looks like tech-related titles are leading the way, with Wired Magazine at the top of the charts so far.
The first issue of Wired on the iPad sold 105,000 copies, according to Ad Age. That was significantly higherthan the print sales for the same issue. Since then, Wired for iPad has sold an average of 30,000 copies per month, or about 37% of the newsstand sales.
Popular Science’s iPad edition’s sales are said to be equivalent to 12% of its newsstand sales.

Best Buy doesn’t take a 30% of Sirius XM’s subscription fees when you sign up and buy/install a radio at their store. They don’t take a cut of Xbox LIVE fees when you buy a subscription card.
This is pretty much what the new app store is going to do. Sirius will have to let you sign up in the app now and then give Apple part of their subscription fee. How is that fair?
If Apple wants more money to run the App Store they can raise the fee from the $99 it costs right now or introduce a pro level developer system or something. IMO Apple is in the wrong on this one.
ReplyI agree. With my ipad, i close them all when it starts to slow down, or when a kid is done playing games, at which point there will be 50 games in the fast app switcher, which i know will slow it down.

February 17th, 2011Daily Tip: How to delete an iPhone or iPad appHi Leanna,
I agree with what you said at the end, as I too would like to be able to set my camera to manual and be able to adjust ISO, shutter speed and aperture from within the app itself. One other thing that kind of killed this app for me (by your review) though is that you can only set the shutter speed to a maximum of 10 seconds. All Nikon DSLR’s that I know of can go up to 30 seconds in-camera, or more via Bulb mode. I’ve run into several instances where I need about 1-2 minutes of exposure time at night, if not more. If it were able to do those things, I’d drop $150 in about 2 seconds.
Also, I have the new Nikon D7000. Any news on if it’s compatible with the D7000?

I agree with rsanchez & Mike in regards to prefering physical storage capacity. However, the trend in technology is clear. Streaming/Cloud technology is quickly evolving. Forget about Apple TV. Look no further than the DVD vs. On-Demand war. I don’t buy DVDs and haven’t in 3
Chad HAS got to get a Christmas card this year from Otterbox. THIS CASE SUCKS!! The “silicone liner” is a joke. The plastic back does not stay on. Bought this POS after getting ripped off on the Defender. Silicone cover will not stay on it. And, it is not just me. Emailed Otter to see about the cover coming off my blue case. Was told they are aware of the problem and will replace the silicone with a new one. It is a design flaw. Campare the way the 3G Defender / Commuter fit your phone. My 3G Commuter almost could not be taken off. This one you can just pull the phone out. Looks like Otter tried to hurry these out. They were late to the party on the 4, and it does not appear they cared what they released, as long as they got out SOMETHING.
